Digital Communications via Sound Card Overview Introduction

This page contains links to many different programs that can be used with a simple interface and your computer's soundcard. Many years ago, modes like RTTY, SSTV and fax were only used by specialists who had the knowledge and financial resources. Expensive converters were necessary. This changed after home computers were used substituting a part of the expensive hardware. Even with very little hardware (like the well-known HamComm modem) you can get astonishing results. To go one step further, you can drop any extra hardware if your computer has a sound card (as most computers will have nowadays). The soundcard and the computer do all the work necessary to decode/encode the signals. On this page you can find a good choice of shareware programs and simple interfaces that do Digital Communication related tasks using the sound card, e. g. DSP, BPSK31, BPSK63,QPSK31, FSK31, RTTY, Packet, Pactor (RX only), AMTOR (FEC), MFSK, Hellschreiber, Throb, Fax (RX only). SSTV, MT63, audio frequency analyzing and more. USAF MARS in no way endorses or supports any of the programs or interfaces listed here. I have compiled this list only to help you in locating programs that are known to work with sound card interfaces. As you should expect, some programs will work better than others and some will not work at all with certain computer / sound card configurations. I recommend that you download and evaluate several programs to determine which ones work best for you. If you find any of the referenced links non-operational or would like to add new links please feel free to contact me. Shareware, Freeware and Commercial Sound Card Programs
